JUNGFRAU REGION RAILWAYS Allmendhubel - Funicular
The Allmendhubel is a funicular train operated by the Schilthornbahn
AG Company which runs from the village of Mürren to the high Alps
meadows looking on the Piz Gloria and Jungfrau ranges. The small cable
pulled car was originally constructed for farmers to carry goods up
the steep hills and their harvest back down, but now is used for by
local inhabitants valleys and for tourists to the idyllic Alpine setting.
At the top (1970 meters/6463 feet) the Allmendhubel Panoramic Restaurant
offers meals with views of the Alps mountains. There is a large outdoor
playground for children. In summer when the meadows bloom with color,
the Allmendhubel Flower Trail is ideal for hikers. In the flowering season
over 150 varieties of flowers can be found. The trail takes about 20
minutes and starts near the restaurant. Longer easy hikes can cover a
range of territory with beautiful views. In winter the Allmendhubel is
ideal for casual family skiing and sledding.
