SKI RESORT REGIONS IN SWITZERLAND
Rhone Alps
Verbier - 4 Valleys
Verbier and The Four Valleys area in the southern part of the country
of the Rhone watershed where Switzerland borders the Mont Blanc mountain
range is considered one of the prime ski areas in Europe, with
sunny peaks, wide ski areas, excellent nightlife and skiing for every
seeker
of the snow, from the adrenaline fueled expert to intermediate and the
casual beginner. Verbier exudes the pure alpine ambience with traditional
architecture, and broad selection of shopping temptations, lively bars
and lots of restaurants.
For the beginner Verbier offers lovely scenic and sunny nursery slopes
starting just above the village and on Savoleyres with tree edged runs
down to La Tzoumaz. The area features the new style 'magic carpet' lifts
in the Esserts beginner area. For intermediate skiers and boarders the
Verbier-Mont Fort provides a huge snow playground, with a hundred miles
of runs and 43 separate ski lifts presenting some of the most varied
skiing in the Alps. For the challenge seeking advanced pro the Jumbo
cable car of Mont Fort carries up to the glacier and the Tortin snow
bowl with its notoriously high bumps.
For Apres ski, Verbier is world famous for its trendy and cosmopolitan
bars and nightclubs – The Farm Clum, Murphy’s, Pub Mont Fort
and Centra T, to name a few. There is a sports center for swimming, ice-skating,
sauna, curling, and squash. The area also offers paragliding, ice climbing
and snowshoeing. The local movie theater often shows films in English.
Nendaz -Veysonnaz
Nendaz and Veysonnaz are casual and charming villages with stunning views
overlooking the Rhone valley. Along with Verbier, Thyon and La Tzoumaz

bargain
family alternative to famed and pricey Verbier, while providing easy
access to the circuit of the four valleys and the nearby Printz ski area.
Nendaz has a friendly atmosphere with plenty of non-skiing activities
and has been stamped with special award by Swiss Tourism for its family
friendliness. Veysonnaz is a laid-back pretty little village with a few
of its own relaxed shops and bars.
For beginners there are some excellent easy slopes high above Nendaz,
at 2200m on the Tracouet frozen lake easily reached by the gondola ride
from the village with beautiful valley views. From Veysonnaz try the
easy blue runs just from at the top of the cable. For intermediates there
are over a hundred miles of excellent skiing terrain in the Printz ski
region which included Nendaz, Siviez, Thyon and Veysonnaz. In the 4 Valleys
area you can find steeper runs to face as well as unbeatable snow conditions
on the glacier. For the advanced there are a dozen black runs available
including the Plan du Fou, Greppon Blanc and Gentiannes runs.
Villars-Gryon
On the north side of the Rhone Valley, Villars is a charming resort village
located on a sunny plateau with great views to Mont Blanc and boasts
a beautiful ski area with a wide selection of well-groomed slopes. The
